Farm-to-table is a social movement that promotes serving local food at restaurants and school cafeterias, usually through direct acquisition from the producer. The Mediterráneo Havana is the first farm-to-table restaurant in Havana, Cuba, and on this excursion you will learn all about the process of getting your food directly from the farm to your table.
Your first stop will be at Mediterráneo Havana restaurant, which offers fresh and natural products that come directly from the sea and land. All their food is provided by local farms and fisher boats, and is preservative and additive-free, controlling every step of the quality they offer. The restaurant combines Mediterranean and local cuisine at the hands of Chef Luigi, who hails from Sardinia, Italy.
From the restaurant, you will go to the Vista Hermosa farm with an expert in Cuban cuisine, where you will learn about the fruits and vegetables grown there and you will have the opportunity to taste some of them.
You will also visit La Mora farm, another plantation that provides food to the restaurant and you will have to opportunity to go there in true local style via a horse ride or on a cart. There, you will learn about the process of animal breeding, and also get to feed them.
After a fun-filled morning where you’ve learned all about the farm-to-table process, you will get to enjoy your lunch at the Mediterráneo Havana restaurant.
Afterwards, you will return to the pier.
Note: This tour involves some walking, about 15 minutes, mostly in asphalt and cobblestone. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests. Guests are advised to bring their camera. This tour is OFAC compliant.
