DICE TOWER EAST – CODE OF CONDUCT

We believe that games are for everyone and are committed to fostering a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for all Dice Tower East attendees, volunteers, and staff (collectively, “gamers”), free from discrimination for any reason, including age, body size, disability, gender expression, gender identity, nationality, physical appearance, race, religious beliefs or background, sexual orientation, or other differences. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for gamers’ behavior and consequences for unacceptable behavior. We invite all gamers to help us ensure that Dice Tower East is a safe and positive experience for everyone. Please help us keep it fun!

Expected Behavior

All gamers are expected to be considerate and respectful toward fellow gamers. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Practicing good hygiene by following the 6/2/1 rule — 6 hours of sleep, 2 meals a day, and 1 shower a day. These are suggested minimums, and everyone is different. So, practice the minimums that work best for you.
  • Wearing your badge and keeping it visible whenever you are in the gaming area.
  • Obtaining permission before photographing or recording other gamers and stopping if asked.
  • Complying with requests to stop unacceptable behavior.
  • Complying with all Dice Tower East policies.
  • Alerting Dice Tower staff or volunteers if you notice unacceptable behavior or someone in distress.
  • And, contacting emergency authorities immediately if you notice an urgent situation.

Unacceptable Behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:

  • Vulgar, intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct (whether verbal, physical, or written).
  • Stalking or following.
  • Photographing or recording gamers without their permission.
  • Sharing a badge among two or more attendees.
  • Repeated disruption of Dice Tower events or interruption of other gamers.
  • Inappropriate or unwelcome sexual attention and behavior, including unwanted sexual language, gestures, imagery or sexting, and use of nudity or sexual images in public spaces
  • Illegal activities or acts.
  • Inciting any of the behaviors above.
  • And, any other behavior that the Dice Tower deems inappropriate.

A Separate and Safe Space

Dice Tower East is an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and the real world at large. There are a lot of very important issues and conversations happening in the world, but we don’t want to bring them into Dice Tower East.  Please refrain from any discussion of current events, political topics, medical advice, or anything else unrelated to gaming.

Profanity/Vulgar Speech

While certain language may not be offensive to you, please consider that some words and phrases may have a completely different effect on someone else. Purposefully obscuring profanity/vulgar phrases is not acceptable.

Impersonation

Claiming to be other DTE attendees in order to obtain admittance to DTE is considered harassment and fraud. When this is discovered, the attendee will be required to remove themselves from DTE and risk permanent ban from future Dice Tower events.

Copyright/Trademark Infringement

Please respect the copyrights and trademarks held by The Dice Tower and Dice Tower East. Posts that contain copyrighted/trademarked material or links to third party hosting sites containing material that infringes on copyrights/trademarks are not permitted. This includes content that infringes or violates any copyright, patent, trademark, or other proprietary rights of any third party.

STOP MEANS STOP!

If someone in your game has a problem with something you are doing, and they ask you to stop, you must stop it. If you choose not to stop and Dice Tower staff or volunteers are notified, consequences may be enforced or you may be removed from the convention.

Reporting Unacceptable Behavior

If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have concerns that the Code of Conduct is not being followed, please notify a Dice Tower East volunteer or staff as soon as possible.

Do not engage the offender. In some cases, unacceptable behavior may stop if you clearly say “No” or “Please leave me alone,” or simply leave the situation. In these cases, we would appreciate it if Dice Tower staff are still informed to help us identify any repeat offenders.

Dice Tower staff will take all necessary steps to assist gamers in feeling safe, including imposing consequences for unacceptable behavior. We will record a report of any incidents. When taking a personal report, our staff will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. There may be another Dice Tower staff member involved to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we’ll ask you to tell us what happened. This may be upsetting, but we’ll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You won’t be asked to confront anyone and we won’t tell anyone who you are. Incident reports will remain confidential with the exception of criminal matters, which we will report to law enforcement. However, we will take into account any concerns you may have about involving law enforcement. Our staff will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, provide escorts, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event.

Remember that the above rules and guidelines are not hard and fast rules for every situation that may arise. These guidelines are subject to change as necessary

DICE TOWER EAST – CONVENTION RULES FOR CHILDREN AGE 7 – 17

Dice Tower East (DTE) is a family-friendly event, and we gladly welcome children between the ages of 7 and 18 to join us for fun and games!!  DTE wants to maintain and promote this family atmosphere; however, we also want to minimize distractions and disturbances to everyone.  We request that all parents and guardians of children abide by the following set of guidelines:

  1. Children must wear their badges at all times while attending DTE, and their badges must be visible.
  2. Adult supervision and emergency contact info are required.
  3. Children under age 7 (including infants and toddlers) are not allowed in the gaming area.
  4. At no time will DTE take responsibility for your children and there will be no babysitting or child-care services provided.  Parents and guardians must be with their children who are age 12 and younger at all times while at the convention.
  5. We are not hosting an organized children’s room at DTE nor will we have dedicated space for family gaming.
  6. Children age 12 and under are not allowed to check out a game from the Dice Tower library.
  7. If your child is crying, screaming, or not enjoying themselves, please escort your child from the gaming room until he/she calms down.  We are happy to have children in attendance, but we ask parents and guardians to follow this rule so as to not disturb or distract other gamers.
  8. Children may not use the game rooms or other areas of the convention center as a playground. The hotel has areas where children can expend their energy (pool, arcade, walking path, etc.).  Please utilize these facilities so the children can burn off their energy.
  9. The curfew for children 12 and under is 10:00 PM, and they may not be in the game rooms after that time.
  10. Children between the ages of 13 and 17 may stay past 10:00 PM, but we ask that parents and guardians please be mindful of their behavior. If you notice your older child starting to get tired or acting out, please remove them from the game area.

Health & Safety Guidelines

You and your doctor are the best judges of how best to participate among people based on your current health and wellness.  If you have any issues or illnesses that have the potential to impact other attendees, we ask you to take precautions to respect their ability to participate, such as the following:

  • Respect the personal choices of those around you. We will not tolerate harassment of any kind, and this includes the choice to wear or not wear a mask. If you feel that other attendees are not following our policies, please notify a Dice Tower staff member, rather than engaging them directly.
  • Do not attend DTE if you are sick. If there is any chance you have anything contagious, whether it be a cold, the flu, a stomach bug, sore throat, please stay home!!
  • If you become ill during the event, please isolate until you feel better, or go home.
  • DTE will follow any mandated health and safety guidelines enacted by local, state and federal governments.  If specific guidelines are enacted, we will list them here and notify all attendees by the email address attached to the badge.

If you’d like to roll up your sleeves and assist with the behind-the-scenes operations at the convention, join our team of volunteers!!  We’ll need some help running our DTE headquarters, the DT library and registration desk, as well as convention set-up on July 2nd and tear-down on July 7th — just to name a few positions!  More information and applications will be available on Tabletop.Events.  Applications will be reviewed and approved by convention staff and positions will be assigned on a first-come/first-served basis.  To apply, you must:

  • Be an adult over the age of 18.
  • Have purchased a badge to Dice Tower East.

Volunteers who work at least 12 hours will receive a refund of their DTE badge (not including TTE convenience fees).  Hours don’t have to be worked consecutively and refunds will be issued after the convention.

Mark your calendar so that you don’t miss out on the fun and games at our upcoming conventions at the Caribe Royale in Orlando!!
