DICE TOWER EAST – CODE OF CONDUCT
We believe that games are for everyone and are committed to fostering a fun, inclusive, and safe environment for all Dice Tower East attendees, volunteers, and staff (collectively, “gamers”), free from discrimination for any reason, including age, body size, disability, gender expression, gender identity, nationality, physical appearance, race, religious beliefs or background, sexual orientation, or other differences. This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for gamers’ behavior and consequences for unacceptable behavior. We invite all gamers to help us ensure that Dice Tower East is a safe and positive experience for everyone. Please help us keep it fun!
Expected Behavior
All gamers are expected to be considerate and respectful toward fellow gamers. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Practicing good hygiene by following the 6/2/1 rule — 6 hours of sleep, 2 meals a day, and 1 shower a day. These are suggested minimums, and everyone is different. So, practice the minimums that work best for you.
- Wearing your badge whenever you are in the gaming area.
- Obtaining permission before photographing or recording other gamers and stopping if asked.
- Complying with requests to stop unacceptable behavior.
- Complying with all Dice Tower East policies.
- Alerting Dice Tower staff or volunteers if you notice unacceptable behavior or someone in distress.
- And, contacting emergency authorities immediately if you notice an urgent situation.
Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors include, but are not limited to:
- Vulgar, intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning conduct (whether verbal, physical, or written).
- Stalking or following.
- Photographing or recording gamers without their permission.
- Repeated disruption of Dice Tower events or interruption of other gamers.
- Inappropriate or unwelcome sexual attention and behavior, including unwanted sexual language, gestures, imagery or sexting, and use of nudity or sexual images in public spaces
- Illegal activities or acts.
- Inciting any of the behaviors above.
- And, any other behavior that the Dice Tower deems inappropriate.
A Separate and Safe Space
Dice Tower East is an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and the real world at large. There are a lot of very important issues and conversations happening in the world, but we don’t want to bring them into Dice Tower East. Please refrain from any discussion of current events, political topics, medical advice, or anything else unrelated to gaming.
Profanity/Vulgar Speech
While certain language may not be offensive to you, please consider that some words and phrases may have a completely different effect on someone else. Purposefully obscuring profanity/vulgar phrases is not acceptable.
Copyright/Trademark Infringement
Please respect the copyrights and trademarks held by The Dice Tower and Dice Tower East. Posts that contain copyrighted/trademarked material or links to third party hosting sites containing material that infringes on copyrights/trademarks are not permitted. This includes content that infringes or violates any copyright, patent, trademark, or other proprietary rights of any third party.
STOP MEANS STOP!
If someone in your game has a problem with something you are doing, and they ask you to stop, you must stop it. If you choose not to stop and Dice Tower staff or volunteers are notified, consequences may be enforced or you may be removed from the convention.
Reporting Unacceptable Behavior
If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, notice that someone else is being subject to unacceptable behavior, or have concerns that the Code of Conduct is not being followed, please notify a Dice Tower East volunteer or staff as soon as possible.
Do not engage the offender. In some cases, unacceptable behavior may stop if you clearly say “No” or “Please leave me alone,” or simply leave the situation. In these cases, we would appreciate it if Dice Tower staff are still informed to help us identify any repeat offenders.
Dice Tower staff will take all necessary steps to assist gamers in feeling safe, including imposing consequences for unacceptable behavior. We will record a report of any incidents. When taking a personal report, our staff will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. There may be another Dice Tower staff member involved to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we’ll ask you to tell us what happened. This may be upsetting, but we’ll handle it as respectfully as possible, and you can bring someone to support you. You won’t be asked to confront anyone and we won’t tell anyone who you are. Incident reports will remain confidential with the exception of criminal matters, which we will report to law enforcement. However, we will take into account any concerns you may have about involving law enforcement. Our staff will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local law enforcement, local support services, provide escorts, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event.
Remember that the above rules and guidelines are not hard and fast rules for every situation that may arise. These guidelines are subject to change as necessary
DICE TOWER EAST – CONVENTION RULES FOR CHILDREN AGE 7 – 17
Dice Tower East (DTE) is a family-friendly event, and we gladly welcome children between the ages of 7 and 18 to join us for fun and games!! DTE wants to maintain and promote this family atmosphere; however, we also want to minimize distractions and disturbances to everyone. We request that all parents and guardians of children abide by the following set of guidelines:
- Children must wear their badges at all times while attending DTE.
- Children’s tickets must be part of an adult ticket purchase.
- Children under age 7 (including infants and toddlers) are not allowed in the gaming area.
- At no time will DTE take responsibility for your children and there will be no babysitting or child-care services provided. Parents and guardians must be with their children who are age 12 and younger at all times while at the convention.
- We are not hosting an organized children’s room at DTE, but we are setting aside Curaçao 5-8 for children and family gaming from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm each day of the con. This area will have tables set up for parents and guardians to play games with their children. Volunteers will be monitoring the room, but they are not responsible for the care and supervision of your children.
- We feel comfortable allowing children age 13 and up to roam around the convention areas independently, as long as you are comfortable with it as well. We trust that you as their parents and guardians are the best qualified to make that decision.
- Children must be 13 years or older to check out a game from the Dice Tower library.
- If your child is crying, screaming, or not enjoying themselves, please escort your child from the gaming room until he/she calms down. We are happy to have children in attendance, but we ask parents and guardians to follow this rule so as to not disturb or distract other gamers.
- Children may not use the game rooms or other areas of the convention center as a playground. The hotel has areas where children can expend their energy (pool, arcade, walking path, etc.). Please utilize these facilities so the children can burn off their energy.
- The curfew for children age 12 and under is 10:00 PM, and they may not be in the game rooms after 10:00 PM. Children between the ages of 13 and 17 may stay past 10:00 PM, but we ask that parents and guardians please be mindful of their behavior. If you notice your older child starting to get tired or acting out, please remove them from the game area.
THE CONVENTION AND THE CORONAVIRUS
PLEASE NOTE: This section will be updated as new information about the Coronavirus emerges. We strongly encourage you to check back often for updates.
The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has been declared a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization and is extremely contagious. The state of medical knowledge is evolving, but the virus is believed to spread from person-to-person contact and/or contact with contaminated surfaces and objects, and through the air. People can be infected and show no symptoms and therefore, spread the disease. Evidence has shown that COVID-19 can cause serious and potentially life-threatening illness and even death.
The Dice Tower and Dice Tower East encourage those attending and participating in Dice Tower East 2023 (DTE) to review relevant information for their own and others’ protection. Attendees and participants are encouraged to apply relevant guidance from the United States Centers for Disease Control (https://www.cdc.gov) and comply with applicable Florida State (https://floridahealthcovid19.gov/) and Orange County, Florida governmental directives (https://www.orangecountyfl.net/EmergencySafety/Coronavirus.aspx).

- To self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 (symptoms typically include, but are not limited to fever, cough, and shortness of breath);
- To notify us at dte@dicetower.com if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 within 7 days of your anticipated arrival date and withdraw from participation in DTE;
- To immediately cease participation in all convention activities and self-isolate if you experience symptoms of COVID-19 while attending DTE. If you are staying at the Caribe Royale, you will remain in your hotel room until medical assistance can be obtained. If you are not staying at the Caribe Royale, you will self-isolate at home or wherever you are staying and get medical assistance on your own.
The Dice Tower and DTE cannot guarantee that Participants will not become infected with COVID-19. By purchasing a ticket to DTE, you acknowledge the risk of such exposure, whether it be from other participants at DTE, any others at the Caribe Royale (hotel) unrelated and not connected to DTE or otherwise outside of the convention and hotel.
Further, by purchasing a ticket to DTE, you waive for yourself and for your executors, administrators, assignees and heirs any and all rights and claims for damages, losses, demands and any other actions whatsoever, which you may have or which may arise against the Dice Tower, Thomas J. Vasel, Laura Vasel, and their heirs, successors, employees, directors, officers, associates, volunteers and agents (“Released Parties”), including but not limited to claims for any and all injuries, damages or illnesses suffered by you and/or your property, which may in any way whatsoever arise out of, be related to or be connected with the Premises or your presence at DTE, including but not limited to claims arising out of physical illness or death resulting from any exposure to COVID-19.
