FABRICA DE ARTE CUBANO
November 2, 2018CUBAN RUM, CIGARS & ART
November 2, 2018Port: Havana, Cuba
Cuba’s art has been compared to the art created in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, London and other world art centers as being some of the best in the world. Cuban art is diverse and cultural and this tour will allow you to experience the island’s talent and maybe even meet some of the artists behind it. Your tour begins in the early afternoon with a visit to the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, founded in 1913. You will get to enjoy the two buildings that belong to this museum, one of which houses Cuban art in the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) and the other Universal art in the Palacio del Centro Asturiano (Palace of the Asturian Center).
Not only will a visit expose you to the painters since the beginning of Cuban history from the 17th century till today, but it will also clarify the history and mood of its artists, a history often unexplored and misunderstood. You will learn not only about the architecture of these wonderful buildings, but also about the sculptures surrounding both palaces.
Your next stop will be at Muraleando – A community art project. During the poverty-stricken “Special Period” that Cuba endured after the Soviet Union collapsed, localized community projects were organized, many of which were created to teach children art and music in order to lift people’s spirits. Artists come to teach the children from their own good will in hopes of selling their art. Profits are split from their art work and the artist takes 50% and the other 50% goes into the project that teaches approx. 230 children art, singing, music etc. after school and on weekends.
After a morning full of classic and modern art, you will return to the pier.
